Energy Intensity Targets
Energy intensity targets for both commercial buildings and residential homes are among suggestions made by the country’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) as a means of lifting the country’s energy efficiency and conservation performance.
The suggestion is contained in a review of the country’s energy performance carried out by EECA.
Households could be targeted with a stipulated kWh figure for each home, or it could be set on the basis of the number of people living in the dwelling. Office buildings might have a kWh figure established per square metre per year.
Implementation, it was suggested, might be done through consultation and partnership with the real estate industry covering such items as targets, thresholds and time frames. EECA and the country’s Department of Building and Housing could be suppliers of information on how best to achieve the efficiency goals established through this process.
